DUSSEHRA:-

Dussehra is a compound Sanskrit word.

'Dus' means the number ten and 'Ahara' means Day that means ten days. In other way we can say 'Dus' as ten head of Demon king Ravan and 'hara' as draft.

In eastern part of the country popularly it is known as Vijayadasami.

The Demon King Ravana:-

According to the Hindu Sastra Dussehra is observed on the tenth day in the month Ashwina falls in the month of September or October. This festival literally marks the victory of lord Ram over the demon king Ravana.

Bisrakh village:-

This village situated near north Noida. The village has been named after Vishrava father of king Ravana.

It is known as birth place of Ravana.

In this village Dussehra is observed with the performance of Yagnas (holy fire) for peace in Ravana’s soul.

We visited 'Maa Kanaka Durga temple' in the evening, drenched in rain.

Mandore town:-

It is in Rajasthan. This town named after Ravana’s wife Mandodari.

Dashnana temple:-

It is situated in Kanpur district of Uttar Pradesh. The idol of Ravana worship in this temple.

On the occasion of Dussehra the idol of Ravana is offered the ceremonial ,ilk bath and garlanded with marigold flowers.

The gates of this temple are closed the whole year till another Dussehra next year.

Post funeral ceremonies like Shradhda and Pinda danam are also observed wishing Ravana’s soul rest in peace.
