Self Discovery (Know Yourself)
I went to a fruit shop one evening. At that shop I ordered two lassies to bring home. The owner of the shop ordered his servant to prepare two luscious parcels. I waited in front of the store until it was ready. During that time my focus was on other shops and people in the market around me. But in my absence, the shop owner was staring at me.
When the servant said that the order was ready, my attention was drawn to the shop from another mind. I saw that shop owner looking at me again with suspicion for a while. The expression on her face seemed to indicate that he was in a state of confusion about me and that he had some questions in his mind. As he held out my parcel to my hand, he suddenly asked, "Where had I seen you before?" And said It seemed like I had seen you before, But I can't remember you in a better way. I also said I don't know. Because I didn't remember, and I didn't know him before.
I guess the shopkeeper looked 5 to 10 years older than me. After a while he remembered that he had visited my Facebook page a few days back. "So when I saw you, I felt like I recognized you." As far as I know, I don't have a photo on my Facebook page right now, except for one logo. After a while, we found out that he recognized me from my blog post. Because that's where I have photos and information with my full profile. Knowing this, he happily discounted the price of the lassi parcel by Rs 5. But that was not the point of my learning. I grabbed two lassies and returned home.
On the way, I remembered an interview with the famous sand artist Sudarshan Patnaik. There he was asked in his interview how you could talk to foreigners when you were going abroad to participate in competitions even though you did not know English. "I was just showing people abroad the instrument I had," he said in response. Seeing that, people knew that I had gone there to take part in a sand art competition. That is, he did not need language to communicate with the people there, his art was his means of expression. And that was his identity. He also had the opportunity to become a permanent resident abroad for that identity, but he refused to give up his patriotism.
Therefore, it is common to have acquaintance with others. But my acquaintance with the shopkeeper was somewhat different. Then I had realised that, now I am engaged in building my identity.
